Services - Diagnostic and non-destructive tests
Since more than 50 years the Institute is committed to non-destructive test and on-field diagnostics activities on huge constructions and welded structures like: bridges, buildings, chemical, petrochemical and energy production plants, offshore platforms, pipelines, desalinators, etc.
The most effective traditional techniques are used for any specific case (penetrating liquids, magnetoscopic and ultrasonic examinations, traditional and digital radiography).
The Institute continuously invests consistent resources to acquire the most sophisticated advanced diagnostics systems and a specific area has been created with the purpose of developing the new NDT technologies.
Users can thus count on a continuously updated and high-level competence and experience wealth.
Traditional controls:
- Visual and dimensional (verticality, planarity, etc)
- Controls on painting (thickness measurements, adherence tests, spark-test, etc)
- Ferrite measurement (% and FN)
- Extraction of metallographic samples
- Hardness measurements by means of portable hardness meter
- Chemical analysis by means of portable spectrometer
- Video endoscopy and remote visual examination by means of video camera
- Leakness tests by means of mass spectrometer and Vacuum box
- Routine non-destructive tests requested by NDT inspectors of higher level (2 or 3)

Advanced diagnostics:
- Ultrasonic defectoscopic and corrosion research examinations (P-SCAN, T-SCAN, C-SCAN, TOFD)
- Surface defects control by means of the ACFM system
- Atmospheric tanks bottom control by means of the flux leakage technology (Floorscanner)
- Controls on catalytic tubes with mechanized equipment
- Ultrasonic defectoscopic controls on austenitics, HTHA damage, WET H2S, etc.
- Inducted currents / remote field controls
- Magnetoscopic and penetrating liquids tests at ambient and hot temperature (T>50°C)
- Thickness and ultrasonic defectoscopic tests at ambient and hot temperature (T>70°C)
- Digital radiographic tests
- Acoustic emission / tracing gases
- Wavemaker automatized ultrasonic pipe tests for corrosion detection
