Welding processes and Welding machines
The Laboratory of Istituto Italiano della Saldatura is able to operate with traditional and advanced welding processes.

The following traditional welding processes are available: Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas (active or inert) Metal Arc Welding, Tungsten Inert Gas Welding, Submerged Arc Welding. The work conditions, in the laboratory facilities, are the following:
- Material: All type of carbon steel and alloy steel grades (particularly for tubes ranging from X52 to X100), austenitic stainless steel and non ferrous alloy
- OD dimension: up to 12 “
- WT dimension: 8 mm to 25,4 mm
IIS is equipped with a special area with advanced welding processes:
- Laser Beam Welding (6 KW ELEN CO2 and Nd-YAG)
- Robotized Solid Fibre Laser Beam Welding (1 KW IPG)
- FSW Friction Stir Welding (GKSS manufacturer)
- Robotized MIG/MAG equipped with pulsed current generator (CMT Fronius)
- Plasma Transferred Arc for welded joints and overlays (CC-500A Plasma Team)
- Automatic Hiprotig operating in the key-hole mode with high level production
